8 people taken to the hospital after deck collapse at Maryland home

Officials say eight people were taken to the hospital after a deck collapsed at a Maryland home Saturday.

Howard County Fire and EMS says about 20 people were on a 20 foot by 40-foot deck when it collapsed just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the 4900 block of Bonnie Branch Road in Ellicott City.

The deck was reportedly 12 feet from the ground when it collapsed.

Howard County officials say paramedics began immediately triaging patients to assess their injuries. They say eight adults were taken to the hospitals, three of whom were taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma, and five to a local hospital. Investigators say all injuries were non-life-threatening.

In total, more than 40 firefighters and paramedics responded to the incident, according to Howard County Fire.

Officials have not said what led to the collapse.
