Legal pot coming to North Pole

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -- Legal pot is coming to North Pole -- but you won't see Santa hitting a bong. Voters in Alaska have legalized pot, effective February 24th.

Now, the mayor of North Pole wants a local ordinance that bars smoking legal marijuana anywhere but inside the home.

Mayor Bryce Ward tells Daily News-Miner the public pot ban would also apply to the hallways and lobbies of apartment houses and hotels.

But the proposal leaves open the possibility of cannabis-themed coffee shops, if they have a permit.
