Jesse Matthew sex assault trial in Fairfax County scheduled for June 8

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — A Charlottesville man charged with the murder of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham will go on trial June 8 in a separate case in Fairfax County.

Jesse Matthew Jr.'s Fairfax County trial date was set Friday in the case, which dates back to 2005. In it, Matthew is accused of attempted murder, abduction and sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman who was attacked while walking home from a grocery store. The trial is expected to take about two weeks.

Matthew was indicted earlier this week in Graham's case. He is charged with first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile.

Police have said forensic evidence also links Matthew to the 2009 disappearance and death of 20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington. Matthew has not been charged in that case.
