Help and hope for homeless veterans

- In 2015, there were almost 50,000 homeless Veterans nationwide on a single cold night in January, and nearly double that amount are at-risk of becoming homeless.

To help combat the rate of homelessness among Veterans in the Washington area, local Veterans Affairs Medical Center's staff brought together federal, local and state government agencies, Veteran Service Organizations and corporate and non-profit community partners at The Winterhaven Homeless Veterans Stand Down on January 30.

The event offered health care, benefits assistance and services, as well as one-on-one housing and employment counseling to local homeless, at-risk and underemployed Veterans.

Fox 5's Megan Dice was there, and reports on how it especially benefited female Veterans in the video above.
