Homeowner catches Postal Service carrier on video throwing packages onto doorstep

A postal carrier in Virginia is in hot water after being caught on video tossing packages onto a doorstep.

On the surveillance video, the carrier on her route along W Chapman Street in Alexandria was seen flinging packages like a Frisbee to their final destination as they landed on snow and water.

"If I had not known they were there, they would have gotten wet," said Anthony Barone. "They were books."

The homeowner set up the cameras for security, but said he caught the carrier slacking. When he confronted the carrier, she said his steps were too slippery to deliver. But Barone said the video showed him cleaning his steps for safety before she even arrived. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE FULL VIDEO >>>

"It clearly shows that there was no ice on [my steps]," he said. "Again, it was just not one package thrown. This was three packages thrown in three different times all in an hour period of time."

FOX 5 contacted and showed the video to the U.S. Postal Service. They were upset and said they condemn, in the strongest possible sense, the actions of any employee who mishandles mail or packages. They said this incident is not a representation of all of its carriers.

An investigation into the incident is underway on what penalties, if any, the mail carrier could face.

Luckily for the homeowner, the items in his packages were not ruined, but he hopes for his next delivery, the carrier will care.

"If you can't do it safely, then don't do it," said Barone.

He alerted the postal service of this incident and the agency told FOX 5 that they will reach out to him again and fix the problem to assure it is never repeated.
