Girl, 16, died after being found unresponsive in Lake Braddock Secondary School bathroom

An investigation is underway after a 16-year-old girl was found unresponsive inside a bathroom at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Fairfax County.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue along with officers responded to 9200 Burke Lake Road, on Wednesday, April 20 shortly before 6 p.m. for the report of an unresponsive female found in a bathroom inside the school.

Paramedics transported the girl to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where police say she was pronounced dead a short time after.

The girl has been identified as Brenda Soto of Heritage Square Drive in Burke.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have been investigating the incident, gathering information and are asking the public for any information that may assist them with their investigation.

"There is no apparent threat to public safety and no overtly suspicious circumstances associated with Ms. Soto's death," police said in a statement issued Thursday.

Crisis counselors were available to students and staff. The school principal sent parents an email about the student's death and how to help teens dealing with grief.
