Getaway driver in quadruple D.C. shooting arrested, police still looking for shooter

A man is in custody for helping a gunman getaway after he shot four people in broad daylight.

The attack was carried out more than a week ago, during rush hour on New York Ave in Northwest D.C.

Police said the gunman reportedly approached a man outside the Big Ben liquor store on New York Ave and shot him before firing shots at three bystanders. The bystanders were shot in the arms and legs, his target was hit multiple times and is still recovering, according to officials.

"So after the shooter approaches the victims on foot and opens fire he pops into a car and leaves the scene," D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier explained. "So we are still looking for at least one other person that was involved in that case this first arrest is the good step in the right direction but it doesn't end this investigation."

The man driving the getaway car, a black Ford Explorer, was Kevin Cole, 26, of Southeast, DC.

Cole has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier.

Surveillance footage from the scene helped police identify Cole as the driver of the getaway car. The men who were shot were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive, according to officials.

Officials are continuing to search for the shooter. The case remains under investigation.

"We'll let folks know for businesses, churches, nonprofits and residents our security camera program continues to have funds available and we want people to call us," Lanier said.
