Former Md. teacher pleads guilty to child sex abuse

A former Montgomery County substitute teacher pleaded guilty to sex abuse of a minor and third degree sex abuse. Jose Pineda, 50, appeared in court Wednesday to accept a plea deal.

He was charged with inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl at Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown in September 2014. According to charging documents, the victim was helping the substitute teacher with a video the class was watching. She says he squeezed her on the behind and then smiled at her. She sat in her seat and he walked by rubbing her leg and buttocks four to five additional times.

After Pineda's arrest in that case, additional victims came forward.

Under the plea deal, Pineda faces five years in prison and must register as a sex offender for life. He will be sentenced on May 29.
