Fire, switch problems delay Monday's commute on several Metro lines

Several issues along D.C. Metro lines are slowing down Monday's commute.

The morning began with delays on portions of the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines near the Stadium Armory station. Metro officials reported that a fire occurred while a train involved in a track test became disable. The test was being done on a portion of track that had seen weekend repairs. The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured.

Metro authorities say the train will be removed from the track and a second test will be performed before the line will reopen.

The Orange Line was single tracking between Stadium Armory and Cheverly, trains on the Blue Line were single tracking between Stadium Armory and Addison Road, and on the Silver Line, trains were only operating between Wiehle-Reston East and Eastern Market.

At around 1:49 p.m., Metro announced rail service on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines were operating as normal, but passengers should expect residual delays.

In northwest D.C., a switch problem outside of the Friendship Heights station caused delays in both directions.
