Fairfax Police search for hit and run driver

- Exactly one week after a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly woman, Fairfax County Police returned to the crime scene to try and track down tips.

Investigators spent about an hour on North Shore Drive near Village Road passing out flyers with a photo of the yellow Ford Escape believed to have struck the victim on Sunday, August 28.

They did the canvassing in the 5 p.m. hour- the same time of the crash one week ago. Police said the thought is many people have similar routines, and officers were hoping to reach someone who was in the area last week and may have seen something that could help break the case.

“What we’re looking for, especially today, is just to jog people’s memories as to events that happened exactly one week ago,” said Det. Gene Taitano, with the Fairfax Co. Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. “So they can come forward with even the tiniest amount of information that can lead us to speak with the driver or recover the vehicle in question.”

The crash victim, 76-year-old Hung Soon Seo, lived nearby in an apartment community for low-income older adults.

“I have a mother who’s about that age, so I thought about her,” said Rashaun, who saw the aftermath of the crash last week and was back in the area today. “Someone lost their life, so someone should be responsible for that.”

Fairfax Police said tipsters who provide information through Crime Solvers are eligible for a cash reward of $100 to $1,000 if their information leads to an arrest. Tipsters never have to give their names if they choose not to.

You can contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS or email at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text TIP187 plus your message to CRIMES/274637. You can also call police at 703-691-2131.

Police initially thought the driver of a black Nissan Ultima may have been involved with or witnessed the crash. Taitano said Sunday that investigators contacted that driver and now believe the person wasn't in the area until after the crash occurred.
