Extreme heat responsible for early morning delays along Metro's Red Line

The extreme heat has caused many problems for area residents, and Monday morning, it even contributed to delays along portions of D.C.'s Metrorail lines.

Work which was scheduled to be completed over the weekend ahead of Monday morning's rush-hour was held-up by the high temperatures. Crews were forced to continue the work into the morning hours Monday causing single tracking along parts of the Red Line.

Commuters faced late departures and crowed trains for several hours between the Medical Center station and the Grosvenor station where single tracking took place. Normal service was restored around 6:45 a.m.

Single tracking between the Shady Grove and Rockville stations due to the SafeTrack Surge #7 maintenance plan will impact the commute through August 18.
