Driver speeds off, crashes while officer is caught in door

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- A Prince George's County police officer has been injured after authorities say a driver sped off while the officer was caught in one of the vehicle's doors.

Police say an officer approached the driver Wednesday in District Heights and somehow got caught in the car's door. It was not clear why the officer approached.

Police say the driver then sped off, pulling the officer along before the vehicle hit a tree about 100 yards down the road. Police say the officer was thrown to the ground and the driver ran from the scene.

Authorities say the officer's injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are continuing to search for the driver involved.
