Dog dies after owner says he was shot with a crossbow

HANCOCK, Md. (AP) -- Investigators say someone apparently used a crossbow to kill a dog near the western Maryland community of Hancock.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that deputies responded Saturday morning to call about an injured animal at a rural address about five miles east of Hancock.

Deputy First Class Carly Hose says family members told investigators they had let the dog named Bronx out at about 6:30 a.m. They say they found him on their front porch about 20 minutes later, bleeding profusely from a chest wound. He died before the family could get him to a veterinarian.

Hose says family members told investigators the dog had been shot with a crossbow. She says deputies found evidence that the dog was shot while standing on the porch.

Anyone with information in reference to this case is asked to contact DFC Corey McCarthy, 240-313-2170.
