Derailment, track problems caused delays along Metro's Orange, Blue Lines

Unexpected track problems caused delays Tuesday morning along Metro's Orange and Blue Lines.

Officials say the derailment of a contractor vehicle, similar to a small crane, outside of the Dunn Loring-Merrifield station caused single tracking of Orange Line trains between the W Falls Church and Vienna stations. the single tracking caused delays for several hours. Trains were back to full service around 7 a.m.

Along the Blue Line, service was suspended for several hours between the Franconia and Van Dorn Street stations due to a track problem outside of the Van Dorn Street station. Shuttle bus service was put into place during the delays. Service was also restored around 7 a.m.
