Demand for Pope Francis' Fiat soars following visit

Fiat's popularity has risen since Pope Francis used one to get around D.C. during his historic visit to the U.S. Some dealerships around the D.C. area reported getting phone calls inquiring about their Fiat vehicles within hours of the Pope's arrival.

"We've gotten a lot more foot traffic in the showrooms," Jamie Shupe, from Criswell Fiat of Gaithersburg ,told us. He added that he notices people are now getting back in the market for Fiat vehicles since the visit.

Shupe says he thinks a lot of it has to do with the price of the vehicle which comes in at under $20,000.

The Pope's model is at the top end of the line. The company, which owns Jeep and Dodge, also produces less expensive compact cars.

"Everybody ran every article that they could find around - check it out!" Shupe said. "It was pretty cool!"
