DC tops list for worst traffic in US

If you live in the Washington, D.C. area it will come as no surprise that the region is at the top of a list for the worst traffic gridlock in the entire country.

The 2015 Urban Mobility Scorecard released by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute shows that congestion rules on the roads inside and out of the Capital Beltway.

The average D.C. area commuter spends 82 hours a year stuck in traffic - the most in the nation. Drivers in Los Angeles spend about 80 hours a years in traffic, followed by 78 hours in San Francisco, 74 in New York, and 67 in San Jose.

According to the report, D.C. has 1.8 million commuters driving between 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at least 6 hours of that time is congested.
