DC police: body found in water south of airport is female

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- District of Columbia police say the body discovered in the waterway near Reagan National Airport is female.

Police say the body pulled from the water near the intersection of Four Mile Run Stream and the Potomac River on Saturday is female and possibly Hispanic.

Police say the woman was in her late 40s or early 50s, had short hair and was wearing a dark coat, blue hooded sweatshirt, red shirt and light blue pajama pants. Police say the woman was wearing a ring with the name Erica on one side and Jones on the other.

Police also note that the woman may have recently had surgery on her right ankle.

Police have not released the identity of the woman.
