Police say kids fabricated report about Annapolis clown sighting; 2 other reports unsubstantiated

A clown sighting reported by children in the Annapolis area was fabricated and two other reports were unsubstantiated, police said Tuesday. Officers made the announcement after three reported sightings had been made.

Officers say that the fabricated sighting was made by four girls who claimed they saw a person in a clown outfit around 8:30 a.m. on September 19th near Bens Drive near Victor Parkway.

Two other unsubstantiated sightings were made last week claiming clown sightings had been made in the 700 block of Newtowne Drive and in the 1400 block of Tyler Avenue.

Annapolis Police specualted that recent clown spotting reports in other states sparked these incidents.

Officials are still advising the public to call 911 if they see someone dressed in a clown costume or someone in an unusual place.
