Chemical reaction leads to hazmat response at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington

A strong reaction caused by chemicals in a storage supply closet led to a hazmat response at the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington.

The hazmat situation happened around 10 a.m. on the Fort Myer side of the base after reports of a foul smell and complaints of eyes being irritated.

Officials say personnel from the affected area were evacuated.

Seven soldiers and a member of the emergency response team were being evaluated after complaints of feeling ill.

The base's Henry Gate, is closed. All other gates remain open.

There are no indications that the incident was criminal or terrorist related.
