Cash from armored vehicle spills in Baltimore's Harbor Tunnel causing delays

Baltimore's Harbor Tunnel was temporarily shut down Wednesday night when cash spilled out of an armored truck and onto the roadway inside.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police say the tunnel was closed in both directions for about seven hours Wednesday after a significant amount of currency began falling out of the rear door of a Brinks armored truck around 8 p.m. How the money came out of the truck was not immediately clear.

Police said Thursday morning that most of the money has been picked up, but said some bills were being gathered in the ventilation shaft and storm drains under the tunnel.

It is unclear how much money spilled out of the vehicle. The Harbor Tunnel reopened around 4 a.m.
