Car found in Anacostia River with body of man inside

WASHINGTON - (AP) -- Police say one person has died after a car plunged into the Anacostia River.

Emergency crews say they found the man's body inside the overturned car when they investigated the crash. The man was taken to the medical examiner's office where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the incident took place Monday night around 10 p.m.

It's not clear what caused the incident. The man's identity has not been released.

Some roads near the river were closed as crews pulled the vehicle from the water.

The investigation is ongoing.
