Maryland county leaders fly to Cuba to create tourism ties

(AP) -- Anne Arundel County leaders will be onboard the inaugural flight from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to Cuba to establish relationships with Cuban tourism officials.

The Capital (http://bit.ly/1FAfJxV ) reports County Executive Steve Schuh and economic development leaders will take off Wednesday for the three-day trip. Board member for the BWI Business Partnership Lou Zagarino says BWI is one of about a half dozen airports in the U.S. approved to offer a direct flight to Cuba.

The delegation will meet with Ambassador Jeffery DeLaurentis and officials at the U.S. Embassy in Havana for briefings on economic opportunities.

Officials say upon returning, the delegation will be able to brief interested businesses in the county on how they can establish business relationships with Cuban markets.
