Mother charged after leaving baby in unlocked car while shopping

- A baby girl was left in an unlocked car during the middle of the day on Thursday while her mother shopped for wigs.

Police are investigating the incident that happened Thursday after a woman left her baby girl in the car for almost an hour while she shopped for wigs at a ‘Beauty 4 U’ shop in Temple Hills, Maryland.

At some point police arrived and the mother can be seen in a video taken by a woman who works at ‘Beauty 4 U’ sitting on the curb handcuffed.

Dedra Coley, a witness to the incident says she noticed the baby was still in the car screaming at the top of her lungs, so she opened the car door and took the baby out, cradling her.

A relative was called to the scene and the baby was eventually taken into the relative’s custody. Police have charged Elika Evette Gadson, of Mustard Seed Ct, Waldorf, Md. with reckless endangerment.
