Arcing insulator, power cable problems cause Metro delays

Metro riders experienced major delays Tuesday morning after an arcing insulator and a power cable issue resulted in reduced service along portions of the Red Line.

For much of the morning, almost all of the system's Red Line trains were impacted by delays.

FOX 5's Bob Barnard was at the Medical Center station while crews were on the track making repairs close to the area where passengers board the trains.

Many riders at stations along the western most portions of the Red Line tracks experienced 30 minute delays and crowding for most of the morning rush.

Speed restrictions also caused delays for much of the morning along portions of the Orange, Silver, and Blue Lines.

Track repairs were still being made late into the after noon on parts of the Red Line near the Farragut North station.
