This week's selection for "Will You Eat There?" was helped by an elected D.C. official who lives in the neighborhood.
Brookland's Finest in Northeast D.C. was where FOX 5's Will Thomas visited and it was welcoming, charming, diverse and hip. Named after the neighborhood it serves, the restaurant serves American cuisine with a bistro flair. And as we found, kids are always welcome!
Ward 5 D.C. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie was one of the people who helped spearhead this week's Twitter effort on behalf of Brookland's Finest.
"I come here often," he said. "I know the people. I know the owners. I know half the people who are probably in here right now and I really wanted to support to them since I already spend half of my paycheck here already."
WHAT'S ON THE MENU?
Chef and co-owner Shannon Troncoso tells us they do "a lot of bistro-style food, so we're elevating the traditional bar food to a little higher-end quality food."
The Colonel Burger consists of certified angus beef, tempura onion rings, house pickled onions, cheddar and bacon.
Another popular dish is the Fried Maryland Catfish, which comes served with spicy greens and bacon mac and cheese.
The Local Pork is pork chop that is a full rack, which is grilled to order. It comes with sweet potato hash and bourbon cream sauce.
There is a daily lunch special that is $14. Dinner specials usually range up to $28.
They do happy hour from Monday through Thursday between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Also there is a late night happy hour every night from 11 p.m. until close.
Customers tell us it is a very casual place that is very family-friendly. It is also a great place to meet all of your friends and neighbors.
"It has a good mix of long-time residents and new residents," McDuffie said.
THE MUST HAVE?
Seared Salmon and Grits -- This dish is a nice combination of French cuisine combined with southern cooking. The seared salmon comes with creamy grits, sautéed spinach and a Tabasco Buerre Blanc.
