Will You Eat There? Bayou Bakery in Arlington

FOX 5's Will Thomas is back at it again to help you find places in our region to get a memorable meal.

This week, our Twitter followers picked a spot that will make you feel like you've stepped inside a New Orleans cafe as we approach Mardi Gras.

Owner and chef David Guas started to learn his craft as a kid from his aunt in Louisiana. She taught him the Creole basics and he is sharing his roots with his customers.

Chef Guas says Bayou Bakery doesn't only represent New Orleans, but Louisiana as a whole, and there are different cuisines inside and outside the city.

Their bowl of jambalaya is made with smoked sausage and gulf shrimp.

Another popular item is their gulf shrimp. It is served cold and tossed in a mustard remoulade.

Their signature deviled eggs have a bit of kick to them with cayenne pepper sprinkled on it.

And you can't finish any New Orleans-style meal without beignets. They are dusted heavily with powered sugar and are fried to order.

Lunch ranges from $6 to $9 and dinners range from $11 to $14.

The 4-year-old bakery/eatery/restaurant has a loyal following of customers.

"I'm not even from New Orleans, but I feel like I'm in New Orleans when I'm in here," said one customer.

Another customer told us, "It's just like a little mom and pop restaurant out of New Orleans."

The Muffuletta -- A hearty sesame-crusted Italian roll that is layered on both sides of the bread with olive salad along with smoked ham, hard salami, mortadella and topped with aged provolone cheese.
