LIVE UPDATES: Severe Thunderstorm Watch dropped in some areas

- The threat of severe weather across the DC region is over in many spots across the DC region. We posted live updates here throughout the day.

8:45 pm: The Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10 pm only for southern Maryland, Calvert and St. Mary's counties, and the coastal waters of the Chesapeake Bay, tidal Potomac and area rivers. 

6:46 pm: Severe Thunderstorm Storm Watch dropped for areas north and west of DC where the threat is over. Watch remains in effect for DC and areas to the south and east for now. 

5:53 pm: Conditions rapidly improving across the immediate area, and storms weren't nearly as bad in DC as initially thought. Some strong storms are still moving through, but nothing severe at this time.

5:39 pm: Rainbow spotted in Germantown, Md., but meteorologist Mike Thomas warns southern Maryland isn't in the clear yet. Dark skies also reported over Alexandria.

4:26 pm: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Howard and Montgomery County in Maryland until 5:15 pm.

3:56 pm: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for issued for northern portions of Howard and Montgomery Counties in Maryland until 4:30 pm.

3:19 pm: Severe Thunderstorm Warning expanded farther east to include Carroll County until 4:15 pm. We're hearing the first report of storm damage from the Hagerstown, Md. region. Multiple tress/wires down. Storms packing a punch.

3:17 pm: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of the region until 10 pm tonight for areas shaded in yellow on the map below.  Remember, a WATCH conditions exist that are favorable for severe weather, while a WARNING means severe weather is imminent and you should seek shelter immediately.

3:12 pm: FOX 5's Mike Thomas says at their current pace, the severe storms firing to the west would reach DC between 4-5 pm. 

3:01 pm: The National Weather Service is expected to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Watch to include DC shortly. (via @MikeTFOX5)

2:45 pm: The first Severe Thunderstorm Warning of the afternoon includes parts of Frederick County, Md. and Loudoun County, Va. It's in effect until 3:45 pm.
