Crews treating roads ahead of anticipated winter storm

WASHINGTON (AP) - Highway officials in the mid-Atlantic region are advising drivers to be prepared for a messy morning commute with the possibility of snow and mixed precipitation.

The Maryland State Highway administration says the western and central regions of the state are expected to get snow starting Sunday night and lasting through Tuesday. Crews are pre-treating roads in those areas with salt and loading trucks with sand.

The agency says people should delay their Monday commutes if possible.

In northern Virginia, transportation officials also say the next three rush hours could be affected by bad weather, and roads are being pre-treated.

AAA Mid-Atlantic is also urging drivers in the region to use caution and slow down to allow highway crews to do their work.
