FOX 5's Beth Parker shares a story of how mentoring helped change the life of one member of the FOX 5 family.
Two people: one from rural Oklahoma. The other a city kid from D.C.
Chance brought them together.
Dana Jackson had finished college and law school and moved to D.C. to work on Capitol Hill. She wanted to volunteer and in the mid-1990s, a mentoring non-profit called 'For Love of Children' paired her up with a 6-year-old named Asianna from a pretty rough D.C. Neighborhood.
With Asianna's mother's blessing, Dana took her to the zoo, swimming, horseback riding.
Dana figured it might last a year or two -- but 17 years later -- their relationship is stronger than ever.
