Will you eat there? That is what we are calling our new weekly segment to get you ready for the weekend and maybe a new dining experience!
FOX 5's Will Thomas is on the hunt for memorable meals all across our region. In our first installment, Will picked one of his favorites to get us started.
The way this is going to work is you, the viewer, help us pick the restaurant every week to feature. I'm not the guy to tell you if there is too much salt or not enough spice. It's all about letting the restaurants tell their story. Then you decide: Will I eat there?
This week, we are taking you to the town I call home an hour from Washington D.C. and the restaurant I love. Welcome to Claire's at the Depot where contemporary cuisine collides with history in Old Town Warrenton in Virginia.
Claire Lamborne opened her restaurant ten years ago in what used to be the train depot. This acclaimed caterer quickly earned a reputation as one of Fauquier County's top restaurateurs.
Many of her customers now consider Claire a local legend.
"I really like to use cornmeal, oysters, sweet potatoes, kale," she told us.
Seasonal ingredients have a starring role on the menu. But Claire's southern-infused dishes manage not too be heavy.
"You think of southern food as having a rue and being heavy and we don't go in that direction at all," Claire said.
"The food is really good, it's healthy," she added. "You'll go away from here feeling satisfied, but you won't go home and feeling like you're just going to drop because you've eaten too much."
Brunch and lunch prices range from $8 to $18 and prices for dinner range from $16 to $34.
Claire's is closed on Mondays, but for every other day, reservations are a good idea, especially Friday and Saturday nights and for the Sunday brunch.
You can go to their website at clairesrestaurant.com, give them a call at 540-351-1616 or you can just drop by at 65 South 3rd Street in Warrenton, Va.
What is the scene like there?
"It doesn't matter what type of day you've had, you always leave here with a smile and Claire's is the type of restaurant where the service is fabulous, the food is fabulous," said one customer.
"I sit down, I have a nice drink, the food is absolutely fabulous and the atmosphere is terrific," another customer told us. "What I like is the food is different. It has a little twist to it."
When you look at the mouth-watering menu, you will know why answering our final question wasn't easy. What is the must have?
"The must have is Claire's Famous She Crab Soup," Claire told us.
A big name for big taste. What is in the soup that makes it so good?
"Well, number one is sherry, cayenne pepper, Old Bay, white pepper," she said.
But she wouldn't give the whole recipe away to us though.
And finally, our new tradition -- the dart throw. Where will we go next? Colesville, Md.!
If you know about a restaurant that is your favorite, let Will know about it on his Twitter page @willthomasfox5.
We will keep track of the tweets and we will feature the restaurant that gets the most support next Thursday.
