Anne Arundel County officer charged with biting man's testicle in fight outside bar

An Anne Arundel County police officer has been charged with assault after he was accused of biting another man's testicles during a fight outside of a bar in Baltimore.

Cpl. Michael Flaig, a 10-year veteran with the department, was arrested Tuesday night for second-degree assault and public intoxication outside of Looney's Pub in the Canton area of Baltimore.

According to charging documents, Flaig got into a fight in an alley behind the bar with another man after he claimed Flaig was groping his female roommate.

Police say as the victim was walking home from the bar, Flaig approached from behind and attempted to punch the victim, but he ducked. The victim then grabbed Flaig's arm, pulled him to the ground and straddled over him. The officer then bit the victim's testicle to get free.

"These charges are disturbing and we have an obligation as police officers to conduct ourselves in a professional manner on and off-duty," said Anne Arundel County Police Timothy J. Altomare in a statement. "We will cooperate fully with the Baltimore Police Department as they conduct their investigation. At this time, we cannot comment further because for our agency, this is a confidential personnel matter."

Anne Arundel County police have revoked Flaig's police powers and he has been placed on paid administrative duties.
