Numerous accidents cause major delays on Baltimore-Washington Parkway

At least ten accidents caused numerous delays along northbound and southbound lanes of the of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway Tuesday.

One of the first occurred on the southbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway around 3 a.m. This accident happened in the Laurel area and closed the highway for several hours. Police say that accident happened near the intersection of Route 197 after a vehicle drove off of the road, down an embankment, and into a tree.

Southbound traffic was shut down between Route 197 and Powder Mill Road until around 6 a.m. and the driver of the vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Another accident happened in the Greenbelt area when two vehicles drove off of the roadway. The conditions of the motorists involved are unknown at this time.
