Woman dies after being hit by car in Springfield

A 47-year-old woman was struck and killed while waiting for a bus on Old Keene Mill Road near Greeley Boulevard in Springfield, Va. on Saturday.
Senait Mamo of Springfield was struck by a 2005 Acura at around 2:05 p.m. Authorities said the car was traveling eastbound on Old Keene Mill when the driver lost control and struck her. The vehicle continued up a small embankment, veered back onto the roadway, crossed the median and drove into the westbound lanes where it struck another vehicle.
The victim died at the scene.
The driver and two passengers in the Acura were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released. The driver of the second vehicle, a 43-year-old Springfield woman, was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
Police charged the Acura driver, Corey English, 22, of Fredericksburg, with driving while intoxicated. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Detectives believe speed and alcohol are factors in the crash. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
