85-year-old Va. woman killed in hit-and-run in Centreville

CENTREVILLE, Va. (AP) — Police say an 85-year-old northern Virginia woman killed in a hit-and-run crash may have been having difficulty walking in snow.

Fairfax County Police say 85-year-old Adela Antayhua was walking across Stone Road in Centreville on Thursday evening when she apparently fell and was hit by a car. Antayhua died on the way to a hospital after police found her lying in the roadway around 6:45 p.m.

Detectives say snow along the shoulder of the roadway may have made it difficult for Antayhua to finish crossing the road. There was no stoplight or crosswalk where Antayhua was hit.

Police say Antayhua lived with family in the neighborhood and frequently walked in all types of weather.

Police say the driver of the car may not have been aware of hitting Antayhua.
