7-year-old punched in stomach by friend's dad in school hallway

A second grader at KIPP DC Spring Academy was punched in the stomach by his friend's father in the schools hallway on Wednesday morning.

John McLean, 7, was playing in the hall with his friend when surveillance video shows a man walking up to him and punching him in the stomach so hard he knocked him to the ground.

The seven-year-old's mother watched the video and says she could tell her son who suffers from asthma was having trouble breathing.

"You can see in the video - him just going like gasping for air and all the principal did was say get up-- y'all didn't think to call an ambulance?" Lena McLean said to FOX 5.

Lena wants the man involved to be arrested, "I want him to be arrested since yesterday -- you need to learn it's not cool to hit people, children."

FOX 5 reached out to the school and they say they are aware of the incident - they are concerned for the safety of the school and believe they followed protocol. As far as the man who punched the young boy, D.C. police say as of Thursday night they have not made an arrest.
