McLEAN, Va. (AP) — A 6-year-old northern Virginia boy is in critical condition after he slid into a passing car while snowboarding on a steep neighborhood driveway.

Fairfax County Police say the boy was snowboarding under adult supervision with a group of children at a home in his McLean neighborhood on Wednesday evening. Police say the boy accidentally slid into a passing car, causing life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver, a 65-year-old McLean resident, immediately stopped his car and began trying to render aid to the boy. Emergency crews flew the boy to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition Thursday.

Police spokesman Lucy Caldwell says no charges have been filed against the driver and that the whole thing appears to be a tragic accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
