WINTER WARMTH: Temperatures about 25 degrees above normal over weekend in DC

- Temperatures were about 25 degrees above normal over the weekend in the D.C. area making this December one of the warmest ever.

On Sunday, records were tied or broken at all three area airports. Dulles Airport recorded a new record with a high of 73 and BWI Airport set a new mark at 72 degrees. Reagan National Airport tied a record set in 1889 with a high of 71. FOX 5’s Tucker Barnes says another record could be broken Monday in D.C. if we hit 70 degrees.

The unusually warm temperatures are a result of El Nino, said Barnes, who says the above average winter temperatures are being seen in cities across the eastern half of the U.S.

At the start of the day on Monday, temperatures were about 10 degrees higher than normal. Rain is possible as we get into the weekend.
