Metro hearing to discuss safety, finances

A hearing is set to begin Tuesday into Metro transit system's finances and safety fixes.

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill want to know what role the agency's inspector general plays and will also hear from the operator who was at the controls when a train filled with smoke in L’Enfant Plaza in January.

Operator James Curley is set to appear at the hearing which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday in front of the house oversight and government reform committee.

The hearing follows safety recommendations by the NTSB after a hearing back in February.
