Suspect in Bowie shooting is arrested

Early Saturday morning police say that a team of investigators arrested 22-year-old Christopher King Jr. in connection with Tuesday's shooting at the Huntington Community Center in Bowie. King was safely taken into custody, after he was found hiding in a residence in the 8000 block of Brae Brooke Drive in Lanham.

During the evening hours of June 16, 2015, patrol officers responded to the Huntington Community Center for the report of a sound of shots. Police say that King shot Melvin Thomas Jr. multiple times in the upper body--nearly killing him. Thomas remains hospitalized, in stable condition.

Police officials state that although an argument immediately preceded the shooting, many other factors led to the shooting. In a statement police tell us that King and Thomas were neighbors and acquaintances.

King is also the brother of 18-year-old Devante Marcus King of 8th Street in Bowie who was shot and killed on June 4, 2015 in the 13000 block of 6th street, Bowie. The suspect in that case, police have told us, was taken into custody the next day.
