A Prince George's County police officer shot and injured two armed men on Tuesday. They are suspected of stealing a car in Baltimore.
Derrick Simmons, 42, was charged with felony theft and gun charges on Thursday. Clyde Peterson, 44, was arrested on the same charges on Wednesday.
Baltimore police alerted a regional task force that a black Ford Mustang was stolen. FOX 5 has learned that police used a GPS in the car to track it to the parking lot where the shooting took place.
The detective who approached the car noticed two armed suspects inside, police said. A witness reported hearing the officer ordering a suspect not to touch the weapon.
The officer then fired his weapon, hitting both of the suspects.
Authorities are investigating the possibility that the men were at the shopping center to rob a bank. Two handguns were recovered from the scene, police said.
The detective who shot the suspects is a four-year veteran of the Prince George's County Police Department and previously worked for another local law enforcement agency for 12 years.
The officer has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
