18-year-old girl on bike hit, killed by tractor trailer

(AP) -- Police say an 18-year-old who was riding a bike late at night has been struck and killed in Ashland.

Multiple news outlets report Kristina Goodrow was traveling north in the right-hand lane of Washington Highway about 11 p.m. Sunday when a tractor trailer going the same direction collided with her. Goodrow was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the tractor trailer, 61-year-old John Edward Hardin of Fayetteville, North Carolina, has been charged with reckless driving. Investigators say it does not appear speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Police say Goodrow was not wearing a helmet but suspect it would have made little difference. Family members say Goodrow was riding her bike home from her job at a Subway restaurant.
