Bowser has 'wide-ranging discussion' with Trump

- D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser met with President-elect Donald Trump Tuesday and said they had a "wide ranging conservation about things that are important to Washingtonians."

Bowser met with Trump for about 30 minutes Tuesday morning. She said she congratulated him on behalf of the residents of Washington D.C.

Bowser wouldn't get into the specifics of their meeting, however, she did say the two touched on D.C.’s economic development, the District's focus on education, and his transition into the White House – including plans for the inauguration. Bowser also said the topic of Metro was brought up.

When asked if she would be interested in a role in the Trump administration, Bowser responded, "I have the best job in Washington, D.C. - I'm the mayor."

"It was important for me to make sure the new president knows that we're not a federal agency; that we’re not dependent on the federal government for our funds; that we have a $13 billion budget; that we don’t get any more form the federal government than any state,” she told reporters. “It was important to me that he knew also about our relationship with the president and with the congress.”

"We talked about the things that are important to Washingtonians," Bowser said as she ended her conversation with reporters. "And certainly becoming the 51st state is one of them."
