Rain slows Tuesday commute; sleet and ice possible west of DC region

- Rain impacted the D.C. region on Tuesday as a storm moved its way across the area from the south.

The precipitation came down throughout much of the day leading to a messy evening rush hour commute and is expected to continue until 8 or 9 p.m. before it tapers off.

Sleet and ice are even a possibility for areas of higher elevation to the north and west of the D.C. Metro area.

A Winter Weather Advisory was extended until midnight for some areas north and west until midnight.

Look for a sunny and dry day on Wednesday with temperatures reaching into the low-50s. However, much colder temperatures are expected to move in to the area later in the week.
