Reward offered for info about oil plume spotted in Potomac River

- A $1000 reward is now being offered for information that could help officials figure out where an oil plume along the Potomac River is coming from.

The oily substance was first spotted last weekend near Point of Rocks, Maryland.

The environmental group, the Potomac Riverkeeper Network, is seeking information and will forward the tips to the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA believes it is may be hydraulic fluid or lubricant.

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission officials believe the plume could reach its intake valves in the coming days. Officials insist they are taking steps to make sure the plume doesn't affect the water supply.
