Troopers help deliver baby along Baltimore beltway

ROSEDALE, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say two troopers helped a woman deliver a baby boy along Baltimore's beltway.

Police say a man pulled onto the shoulder near a construction site in the Rosedale area late Thursday and alerted troopers there that his wife was having intense labor pains.

The troopers called for EMS personnel and ran to help. Just a few minutes later, 1st Sgt. Edward Luers says the baby was delivered into the waiting arms of Trooper 1st Class Zachary Mills. The baby was swaddled in towels and EMS personnel took the family to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Luers says he has had basic training, "but you're never prepared for something like that."
