Arcing insulator in tunnel outside Rosslyn Metro station causes Blue, Silver and Orange Line delays

- An arcing insulator in a tunnel near a Virginia Metro station caused significant delays Wednesday morning along parts of the Blue, Silver and Orange Lines.

Just before 6 a.m., fire officials the malfunctioning insulator was spotted in a tunnel near the Rosslyn station.  Rail service along parts of the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines was suspended for about 30 minutes and buses were used to connect commuters.

At around 6:30 a.m., Silver and Orange Line trains were single tracking between the Foggy Bottom & Court House stations. Single tracking latsted about one hour before service was back to normal. Blue Line trains were also single tracking between the Foggy Bottom & Arlington Cemetery stations for about an hour.

Residual delays in these areas lasted hrough the morning rush hour. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the arcing insulator.
