Metro: Radio issues may have contributed to riders waiting in rail car; self-evacuating

- A new report from Metro says that problems with their radio communication system may have led to delays in assisting hundreds of Red Line passengers who were struck for over 30 minutes on a railcar inside of a tunnel.

The report, which was released Wednesday, looked at the September 13 incident that also saw several passengers self-evacuate from the railcar and walk onto the tracks after an issue caused a delay as the cars traveled toward the Shady Grove station.

An investigation into the malfunction is underway ahead of Thursday's Metro board safety committee meeting.

The total incident latest 32 minutes and no injuries were reported.

The cars in question were part of Metro's new 7000 Series.
