49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick addresses DC shooting of Terrence Sterling

- The deadly police-involved shooting that left an unarmed black man, Terrence Sterling, dead in D.C. has caught the attention of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick, was the first NFL player who chose to kneel during the anthem in preseason games to call attention to what he says is the oppression of blacks and other minorities.

Here is what he said to our sister station in San Francisco after Monday night’s game, "Theres an incident yesterday where Terrance Sterling was murdered unarmed black man once again. It’s become habitual... policies need to be changed to address that."

The 49ers released a statement that reads in part: "In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose to participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem."
