Metro operates under modified schedule on Labor Day

- Due to the Labor Day holiday, all Metro stations opened at 7 a.m. Monday - two hours later than normal.

Trains and buses are running run on a Sunday schedule and there will be no Metro Access service.

Stations will also close at midnight.

Metro service information for Labor Day, Monday, September 5

On Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2016, Metro will operate service on the following schedules:

  • Metrorail: The system will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Passengers are advised of scheduled rebuilding work on Red, Orange, Silver and Blue lines. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking will be free at all Metrorail parking facilities.

  • Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. Check bus timetables for details.

  • MetroAccess: All subscription trips will be cancelled on Monday. Customers wishing to travel on the holiday should make a separate reservation.

In addition, Metro's customer information line, lost and found and customer relations call centers will be closed on the holiday.


Weekend service adjustments September 2-5

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of September 2-5 with service adjustments on four of six lines. Trains will operate as follows:

  • (Update) Free shuttle buses replace Red Line trains at Rhode Island Ave station
  • Free shuttle buses replace Orange Line trains between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue
  • Free shuttle buses replace Blue Line trains between Stadium-Armory & Benning Road and Franconia Springfield & King Street
  • Yellow and Green line trains will operate regular weekend service
  • Red Line trains will operate every 6-20 minutes
  • Silver Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only

Labor Day service information. On Labor Day, Monday, September 5, Metrorail will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking will be free at all Metrorail parking facilities.


Red Line Red Line
Trains every 6-20 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday until Closing Monday

(Update 9/04/16) Rhode Island Avenue station to reopen Sunday at 12:00 p.m..

Single tracking between Silver Spring & Glenmont to allow for communication cable installation.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Silver Spring: every 12-15 minutes with additional trains between 9AM and 9PM.
  • Shuttle trains will operate between Silver Spring & Glenmont every 20 minutes. Transfer at Silver Spring to continue trip.

Orange Line Orange Line
Buses replace trains between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Monday

Orange Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Vienna & Stadium-Armory every 15 minutes
  • Between Minnesota Avenue & New Carrollton every 15 minutes

From 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Monday, buses will replace Orange Line trains between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time.

Last Train Times:

  • The last eastbound train of the night from Vienna will depart at regular time . The last train will leave Vienna at 11:33 p.m. and depart Minnesota Avenue at 12:40 p.m.
  • The last westbound train of the night from New Carrollton will depart 16 minutes earlier. The last train will leaveNew Carrollton at 11:20 p.m. and depart Stadium-Armory at 11:50 p.m.

Work Performed: 3rd rail power, aerial structure and grout pad renewal.


Silver Line Silver Line
Trains every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Monday

Silver Line trains will operate every 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.


Blue Line Blue Line
Buses replace trains between Stadium-Armory & Benning Road and between Franconia-Springfield & King St | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Monday

Blue Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Huntington & Stadium-Armory every 15 minutes
  • Between Benning Road & Largo Town Center every 15 minutes

From 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Monday, buses will replace Blue Line trains:

  • Between Benning Road & Stadium-Armory stations. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time.
  • Between Franconia-Springfield and Eisenhower Avenue, making intermediate stops at Van Dorn Street. Please add 15 minutes per station stop.

Stations Closed: Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street

Last Train Times:

  • The last northbound train of the night from Huntington will depart at regular time. The last train will leaveHuntington at 11:37 p.m. and depart Benning Road at 12:40 p.m.
  • The last southbound train of the night from Largo Town Center will depart at regular time. The last train will leaveLargo Town Center at 11:23 p.m. and depart Stadium-Armory at 11:37 p.m.

Yellow Line Yellow Line
Regular weekend service Huntington to Mt. Vernon Sq only | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Monday 

All trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Sq rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.

  • Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders. To check, plan your trip using Trip Plannerand select the bus only option.
  • Customers normally parking at Franconia-Springfield or Van Dorn street should consider parking at Huntington for more frequent service.
