2 men set on fire within hours of each other

A few hours before a man was attacked in Columbia Heights and set on fire another man's clothes were set ablaze just a few blocks away.

According to a police report and sources familiar with the investigation a 57-year-old man was set afire in the 3100 block of 14th street around six thirty pm last Saturday night. The same block as the Columbia Heights target.

Several good citizens came to his aid, his clothes were removed and DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

The man suffered minor burns to his chest and abdomen and was treated at a local hospital.

Hours later, DC Police say another man was walking in the vicinity of 14th and Otis Pace NW when he says two black males attempted to rob him before assaulting him and setting him on fire.

For reasons still unclear, the man says he threw his burned jacket in the trash can and did not receive first aid until hours later when another good citizen noticed him in distress and called 911.

Police say he suffered third degree burns and was hospitalized.

There have been no arrests and police have not released a description of the men involved.
